Ophelia is really my flagship handbag. Something of a show piece for the techniques involved in traditional leatherworking, this is a design which takes a classic handbag shape and gives it a unique, organic twist, resulting in a rare combination of precise details and flowing, natural curves.
The piped handles – stitched entirely by hand, of course – add a real touch of luxury, and appear to grow from the bag thanks to the terminals in the shape of stylised leaves, a motif echoed in the centre of the flap. I felt that Ophelia couldn’t really support any metalwork without compromising the clean lines of the design, so the flap is held shut with a concealed magnetic closure.
The second largest bag in the collection (only Tolomei is bigger) and the most intricate to make, Ophelia is a consistently popular choice among those looking for a handbag which will make a real statement.
